On  the morning of July 30, 1979, fifteen year old Carol Wright was riding her bike to a baby sitting job.  The area was in rural Washtenaw County.  As she was making a sharp turn in the road a man took her by surprise by jumping in front of her.  He grabbed her and the bike, pulled her into the weeds, and pushed her to the ground.  The entire time he kept her head turned away from him.  When she was on the ground he lifted her shirt above her face, but not completely off, so as to hide her eyes from his face.
He then performed oral sex on her  followed by penile sex, however, there was much discussion later as to whether the rapist ever actually penetrated her.   When he left he told her to "Wait 10 minutes" before attempting to leave.

The Prosecution's case was weak so Eskridge cut a deal with a jail-house snitch to gain his perjured testimony against Ewing.

Other factors and miscarriages of justice in the Wright case:

bulletA five page police report was withheld.
bulletThere was no physical evidence.
bulletThe victim was coached to identify Ewing .
bulletThe victim made up a story to support her weak ID.
bulletEwing had an alibi .
bulletThe victim won civil damages based on fabricated evidence.   Other complainants testified for her case.  Documents from the civil trial have been sealed.
