The property log from the Jensen case shows the evidence destroyed. The property log book shows that the evidence in the Jensen case (9/29/80) was destroyed on 11/30/87 by "RLB" (Richard L. Bauer), former property room clerk for the Washtenaw County (MI) Sheriff Department (WCSD).  In his deposition he stated that "The officer in charge of the case (Eskridge) ordered the evidence destroyed."  The date of destruction (11/30/87) was just after Ewing filed his first FOIA request and shortly after DNA testing became available for use in post-conviction cases.

Carol Wright was attacked on 7/30/79.   Her police report stated that the evidence was logged into the property room on that date.  Yet, the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department doesn't list the Wright case.  The dates recorded all refer to other cases.

Richard Bauer testified at his deposition that he "could not explain why the Wright evidence does not appear in the book."  He also was at a loss explaining why every entry in the book around the date of the Wright case (7-30-79) is in his handwriting.   The rest of the property log book typically contains entries in different handwriting because each officer logged his/her own evidence.

The defense has concluded that the original page containing information about the Wright evidence was removed then replaced with this new page.
